Opened by the British to the public in 1875, the Indian Museum is India's first and oldest museum. It was originally part of the Asiatic Society.
The Museum contains stupendous works of art from all periods of Indian's long history and is certainly worth several extended visits. Even people interested mostly in Andamanese artefacts (as members of the Andaman Association sometimes tend to be) have been known to spend hours at the Museum - and this even if the Museum has very little on show from the Andamans.
No list of Andamanese items held by the Indian Museum is available.
